Oriental symbol of courage and strength, the tiger appears sometimes as a mount of Chinese gods to represent the domain of these on the animal passions. The tiger is a yang animal that has the power to expel demons. Here, the god who rides it performs an exorcism by which expels five poisonous animals of a bowl.

Louis Wain was an English artist best known for his drawings, which consistently featured anthropomorphised large-eyed cats and kittens. It has been suggested that later in his life he suffered from schizophrenia, which may have contributed to the progression toward surreal and abstract concepts in his work.

‘The Codex Seraphinianus is a book written and illustrated by Italian artist, architect and industrial designer Luigi Serafini, from 1976 to 1978. The book appears to be a visual encyclopedia of an unknown world, written in one of its languages, an alphabetic writing intended to be meaningless.’
